Poles don't go to the Baltic Sea for vacation, most of the time we call it "The Polish Sea" (Polskie Morze). The Baltic sounds similarly everywhere, but Polish Sea is something different. It ends at the point where the water is too cold to swim and local small entrepreneurs bend over backwards to give tourists reasons to spend their time in the coast.
In August 2019 I spent some time in "Energetyk" - a recreation centre where the shoe cleaning machine generates the most beautiful drone I have ever heard. At the crack of dawn I was sneaking out on an aged bicycle into the woods to "drown" my hydrophone in the anthill and during the day I was inhaling the wind whistling on the beach swarmed with people. Fish and chip shops with names inevitably referring to the sea („Seagull” being the mother of all names), harbour or seasonal entertainment centres - they all manifest their presence with their own melodies, excelled by seagulls and the sound of the sea.
In a sonic landscape the Baltic Sea and the Polish sea rival as if they were two opposite elements.

Polacy nie jeżdżą na wakacje nad Bałtyk, jeździmy nad Polskie Morze. Bałtyk szumi wszędzie podobnie, ale Polskie Morze to co innego. Ono kończy się tam, gdzie woda jest za zimna, żeby w niej pływać, a lokalni przedsiębiorcy dwoją się i troją, produkując preteksty do spędzenia czasu na wybrzeżu.
W sierpniu 2019 spędziłem wakacje w ośrodku "Energetyk", w którym maszyna do czyszczenia butów emituje najpiękniejszy drone, jaki kiedykolwiek słyszałem. Bladym świtem wymykałem się sędziwym rowerem w las, żeby "zatopić" hydrofon w mrowisku, a w dzień chłonąłem wiatr omijający ze świstem mrowie ludzi na plaży. Bary rybne, o nazwach obowiązkowo marynistycznych (z barem "Mewa" na czele), przystań portowa czy sezonowe centra rozrywki - wszystko manifestuje swoją obecność własnymi melodiami, ponad którymi i tak dominują mewy oraz szum fal.
W przestrzeni dźwiękowej Morze Bałtyckie i Polskie Morze ścierają się ze sobą jak dwa żywioły.
