about

I'm sitting in a hospital room awaken by the machine. It alerts me. My daughter's heartrate went below safe threshold for a few beats. I check her. She's fine. The machine is ringing loudly in an empty room, but it didn't wake her up. I can't see the new day dawning, but I know it is dawning because the birds are singing. Common starlings. I don't see them now, not sure if there's 3 or 30 of them. The window barely opens for safety reasons. I hear them only through a narrow gap, while the machine is humming all the time. A child cries loudly in a treatment room just behind the wall. Dawn chorus intensifies. Thank you (whoever) for not cutting all the trees in a dismal landscape of this stupid city. It helps a lot.
