mikehoolboom My vote for field recording collection of the year. Opening with the delicate texture of snow falling in a sublime stereo field, the artist takes us into a winter world, where sleds are dragged across snow, and skates knife across the ice. Reframed in close up using canny mic placements, each encounter carries a brisk freshness, and an invitation to listen.

about

Weather forecast says it will snow tomorrow. But I don’t believe in snow. Not anymore. Not in these areas. When I was young it was snowing in November and lasted until early March. Crunching of snow under a shoe and swishing of polyamid clothes were two basic ingredients of daily soundtracks. Nowadays it snows a bit for one day to recall fond memories and ignite hope for some outdoor fun. Or is it hope for a complete change of everything, visually and emotionally? Anyway it barely lasts couple of minutes on the ground before it melts. Winters go unnoticed. It makes me sad. Then I watch "Home Alone" and I get even sadder :(
